Comparative gene mapping in the domestic cat (Felis catus).
The genetic map of the domestic cat has been developed as a model for studying both feline analogues of human genetic disease and comparative genome organization of mammals. We present here the results of syntenic mapping of 35 genes based upon concordant occurrence of feline gene homologues with feline chromosomes and previously mapped loci in a panel of 41 rodent x cat somatic cell hybrids. T...

This study was intended to investigate some aspects of the morphometric characteristics of the neurocranium in domestic cat (Felis catus) of Bangladesh. Twenty adult domestic cat including 10 males and 10 female were euthanized using diazepam (@ 20 mg/kg) and their skulls were macerated to give morphometric parameters. Student t-test with level of significance set at 5% (p < 0.05) was used to a...

BACKGROUND Domestic cats enjoy an extensive veterinary medical surveillance which has described nearly 250 genetic diseases analogous to human disorders. Feline infectious agents offer powerful natural models of deadly human diseases, which include feline immunodeficiency virus, feline sarcoma virus and feline leukemia virus. A rich veterinary literature of feline disease pathogenesis and the d...
متن کاملDuodenal microanatomy of the domestic cat (Felis catus).
Duodenal samples were taken from similar locations in six cats, processed, stained, and examined via light microscope. There were no prominent circular folds (plicae circulares) or stratum compactum (lamina subglandularis). The 1072 microns x 201 microns villi were covered by 46 microns high columnar epitheliocytes proximally which decreased in height (41 microns) distally and displayed a 1.1-1...
متن کاملCat (Felis catus L.) spermatozoa require capacitation.
In the oestrous female cat, fertilization can take place when spermatozoa are introduced into the vagina up to 49 hr after an ovulation-inducing injection of human chorionic gonadotrophin. The spermatozoa require residence in the female reproductive tract before they are capable of fertilizing the eggs in vitro. No eggs were fertilized by freshly ejaculated spermatozoa. One of four oestrous fem...
